Connoisseurs of super luxury cars will rejoice this year as Bentley makes a splashing debut with its new 2019 Bentley Continental GT, the newest generation of the highly recognized coupe. Starting with an MSRP of about $230,000, the new Continental GT replaces the old one that had been getting quite long in the tooth. With a more modern front fascia and even more striking profile, the 2019 Bentley Continental GT stands as a serious contender to the also relatively new Aston Martin DB11. The DB11 features its own unique array of exotic features, such as a V-12 engine that possesses an undoubtedly distinct “British” exhaust note as the rev counter flirts with the redline. Priced similarly to the Bentley Continental GT, the 2019 Aston Martin DB11 is sure to turn heads with its sensational exterior and advanced technology.
Out of the two models, the DB11 is certainly the “sports car”. Weighing in at 3,880lbs for the V-8 version, the 2019 Aston Martin DB11 is just over 1,000 pounds lighter than the Continental GT which weighs about 4,900lbs. The laws of physics naturally dictate that the much lighter DB11 should be able to zip and maneuver around corners and bends with much greater ease, especially considering it has a lower height than the Continental GT as well. Both models accelerate at very fast speeds, with a 0-60mph of 3.9 seconds for the V-8 DB11, 3.6 seconds for the V-12 DB11, and 3.6 seconds for the Continental GT. While both have plenty of torque due to being turbocharged, one main difference between the two models is that the Continental GT is all-wheel drive, whereas the DB11 is only rear-wheel drive, which thus demonstrates the innate sporting characteristics of the DB11, and the luxury boulevard-cruiser tendencies of the Continental GT.
In terms of appearances, both the 2019 Aston Martin DB11 and 2019 Bentley Continental GT feature a two-door, fastback design, with a long, sloping roofline that swoops over the back. The Bentley still retains its signature four headlamp design, except with this generation, the 2019 model’s lights stand out more as the metal around it has seemingly shrunk and been wrapped even more tightly around the exterior, giving it a more modern and classier appearance. The rear has also been cleaned up and shows off a very minimalistic taillight design that drips of elegance. Contrast this with the DB11’s more acute and angular design that gives the viewer the impression that the rear is far wider than the front, and it should become quite apparent what each model’s purpose is.
No exotic luxury car is complete without having its own set of fancy quirks that cannot be found on regular vehicles. The Continental GT can be customized from the factory with a very expensive option where the buyer can order knurled trim for certain buttons and switches in the car. At over $3,000 for this option, it will give the interior an exquisite, out-of-this-world ambience that will surely impress the driver every time he or she sits inside. The DB11 also has its own trick up its sleeve, where certain colors can be ordered for over $8,000 that have tiny, near-microscopic bits of glass inside of the paint that give it a subtle, yet noticeable sheen that sets it apart from its competition.
