If you’re looking for a fantastic small coupe or convertible with world-class performance, consider the 2018 Maserati GranTurismo and the 2018 Porsche 911. These four-seaters exhibit sharp handling and cool style, with many configurations and options. Enjoy test-driving both, because we’re confident that you’ll end up preferring the Maserati for its passionate style and strong performance.
The 2018 GranTurismo is equipped with a 4.7-liter V8 making 454 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque that drives the rear-wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual mode The Maserati features a Sport mode, paddle shifters mounted to the steering column, and an Ice mode for low-grip conditions. The standard engine on the 911 is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-6 with 370 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque matched to a manual 7-speed.
The GranTurismo is a sub-compact car, one size larger than the mini-compact 911. The difference is apparent from the exterior dimensions, in which the Maserati beats the Porsche in wheelbase (115.8 vs 96.5 inches), overall length (194.2 vs 177.1 inches), width (81.0 vs 77.9 inches) and height (53.0 vs 50.9 inches). Naturally, these differences make the interior of the GranTurismo a much more hospitable space than the 911’s cramped quarters.
Both cars have advanced suspension systems. The Maserati Skyhook adjustable suspension is compliant and smooths out the road when set to Normal. However, push the Sport button and Skyhook adopts a more aggressive attitude. The GranTurismo MC models feature a performance-oriented suspension that is stiffer and lower. The 911 comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management that uses active dampers.
