Cleveland Motorsports Aston Martin DB11 V8 Coupe vs Bentley GT V8 Coupe
When the topic of opulence comes up, few cars can compete with the wretched excess that is the Bentley GT V8 Coupe, and frankly, few cars care to do so. On the other hand, there are a handful of cars that are supremely luxurious and a kick to drive, such as the Aston Martin DB11 V8 Coupe. If you are considering these two, ask yourself whether you want to drive the car or be driven. Aston Martin DB11 is for drivers who want the best in premium esthetics and performance.

Powertrain
The Aston Martin is armed with a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 putting out 503 horsepower and 498 lb-ft of torque, mated to a refined 8-speed automatic transmission. The Bentley has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 500 horsepower, 487 lb-ft, and an 8-speed automatic. The fact that the Bentley need and extra four cylinders and 2.6 liters of displacement to churn out and extra 121 horsepower is surprising, as are the power/weight ratios of the two cars. The DB 11 V8, at 3,880 pounds (the DB 11 V8 engine weighs 230 pounds less than the one on its big brother, the DB11 V12), has a horsepower/pound ratio of 0.1296, versus only 0.0988 for the 5,060-pound GT V8 Coupe. The result is that the DB11 goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, while the GT V8 Coupe requires 6.0 seconds.
Handling
The lithe, nimble DB11 V8 was designed and hand-built to deliver a top driving experience. The smooth 8-cylinder engine sounds wonderful and propels the DB11 ahead in traffic with ease. It has an adaptive suspension that soaks up road imperfections yet conveys a good sense of the road. Electric steering needs just a touch a slight adjustment to handle tight corners. The V-8 version of the DB11 has a slight rear weight distribution bias that substantially enhances its agility. The Bentley feels happiest going in a straight line. The physics of its massive size and width makes the GT V8 Coupe a bear in tight corners and a nightmare in a parking lot.
Dynamic Modes
If you’d like to turn a placid grand tourer into a fun-to-drive coupe, then the DB11 is your choice. The Aston Martin is equipped with two important buttons on its steering wheel. The first gives you three powertrain settings: GT, Sport and Sport Plus Modes. The second switch increases the settings for the suspensions adaptive dampers, going from compliant to stiff. With the proper settings, the DB11 becomes one bad-ass performer, enough to make the Bentley jealous.
